Millions of Rands are to be ploughed into Isandlwana to ensure the battles site not only commemorate the valour of the British soldiers but also the heroism of the Zulu warriors who defeated colonialism.
So said KZN Premier, Dr Zweli Mkhize, who was speaking at a drawn-out 133rd commemoration ceremony on Sunday.
The programme was delayed by over five hours and the highlight, a re-enactment featuring the Dundee Diehards and Zulu warriors, was delayed by over three hours to wait for the arrival of President Jacob Zuma.
He flew in on board an airforce helicopter surrounded by heavily armed security personnel.
Other dignitaries at the occasion included King Goodwill - whose speech was interrupted by the arrival of the Presidential helicopters, MECs and representatives of several Embassies.
A clutch of foreign and local tourists also squeezed into the huge marquees erected on the battle site.
